Is every woman meant to be a mother
Absolutely not every woman is meant to be a mother. For starters with over seven billion people (as of October 2011) in the world, we hardly need every woman to reproduce. More importantly not every woman wants to have children, and many physically cannot. A good many women who are mothers are not doing a very good job of it, so why should we expect every woman to become a mother?
Globally speaking we do not need more mothers, we need more good mothers. To be terribly blunt, just about any physically able female can spread her legs and conceive a child (if the timing is right). A few months later she has a baby. Was she meant to do this?
Well, physically yes. Our bodies are designed for two purposes, one is self-survival, the other is reproduction. Every living thing on the planet has the same two purposes, survival and reproduction. So, from that stand point, yes, every woman was meant to be a mother.
Some women cannot have children for physical reasons, these women often try medical intervention. An argument could be said that they were not meant for reproduction, since they could not bare children without medical aid. Some of them are successful in their bid to conceive and go on to become wonderful parents. Some adopt. It might even be argued that those women who adopted are still mothers just not in the biological sense of the word, as such they were meant for it.
On an intellectual level though, we have a whole other set of problems. Not every woman wants to be a mother. Even with other animals we see mothers abandoning their young. Owners of breeding animals often have to play surrogate mom to a rejected youngster, or litter of young. Just being female is not reason enough to want to be a mother, irregardless of whether or not it is our purpose.
Demands of being a mother are hard. Some of the best women are those who have decided they are not going to be good mothers, they ignore their biological clock, and forsake having children. Oprah Winfrey, is one of the most well-known female figures who chose not to become a mother. Was she meant to be a mother? Physically yes, but for all other reasons, no. She admits she elected not to have children because she felt she could not be the kind of mother a child deserved.
In the end the question of Is every woman meant to be a mother is an impossible one to answer because it can be interpreted many ways. Physically, yes, females are meant to be mothers, or at least we are meant to reproduce. On many other levels though, the answer is no, not every woman was meant for the job, nor are they willing, and able to do it.
Deeper still, in an already well-populated planet, we no longer need as many women to reproduce, and in some cases the fact that so many women are becoming mothers, has caused a burden of more mouths to feed than food can be provided for. On that level, no, not every woman is meant to be a mother.
