Integrity how to Measure and Improve it

Integrity is primarily the core set of values ingrained in one’s character. It is acting according to one’s beliefs and is based on sound moral principles. It is a precious attribute in a person’s character eliciting deep respect and admiration from others. Character is an interesting human trait. Good character is not necessarily something we are born with; but it is something each one of us can create, develop and nurture from the myriad opportunities that come our way.

Ways integrity can be measured

~ Integrity can be measured by a person’s own sense of trustworthiness and commitment to live by truth at all times, with all people and in all situations.

~ The true measure of integrity lies in the choices that are made and is deeply etched in every aspect of a person’s life. It is a personal commitment and not something that can be taken on and off at one’s will and fancy.

~ Integrity can also be gauged by a person’s moral worth - without the trappings of fame and fortune. Such a person has a strong moral fiber and does the right thing habitually, even when no one is watching. This is the true test of integrity.

~ A person with integrity can easily be distinguished. He has acquired natural confidence and goes about performing his tasks with ease and proficiency while forging ahead in life.

~ To measure integrity, you would need to check on whether that person is a promise keeper or not. A person of integrity can religiously be counted upon at all times; such a person for will never go back on his word as he has nothing to fear or hide.

~ A person of integrity demonstrates consistency in thoughts, words and actions; he chooses to be honest, fair and ever-willing to stand up for what’s right in all his dealings, despite the circumstances.

Ways integrity can be improved

~ Integrity can be improved by being mindful of those situations that test a person’s character.  Although most often you may not know it when your character is put to the test, it would be up to you to stand strong and be mindful of the choices you make. Making the right choice at each opportunity can improve on your inherent integrity and character.

~ Integrity which is an integral component of good character can be improved with persistence and practice. By taking a reality check and developing your sense of “inner” value. Success at whatever cost, cannot be the end purpose in life.

~ Avoid laying undue emphasis on the externals; instead strive to develop your intrinsic values. It is not one’s looks, intelligence, wealth or social status that counts; these outward manifestations are not always an accurate indication of one’s integrity. Rather, they could destroy it-ultimately leading to defeat of one’s inner self.

Conclusion

Integrity, which is an effective component of personal development, can be systematically measured and significantly improved. Anyone willing to abide by core human values and live with dignity and honor can infuse integrity into their character. By refusing to compromise on one’s principles whether in career, business, or personal life, you can proudly incorporate integrity into your daily life.

The key is to possess a good moral compass and a desire for good. With this powerful tool of integrity, you can be well on the road to fulfilling all of your life’s dreams and aspirations.
