Do you see the World from the Half Empty or Half Full Perspective

Well, if the liquid in the glass is at the half-way mark, it would be half full! However, my glass has almost always been above the half! I’ve never been one to do anything half-way, as my siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and children could tell you. Oh-and my husband, too! So for me, the glass is always over half-full!

I’ve lived a full and rich life. Born in a poor town to a poor family, I grew up with very little in the way of worldly goods. However, our home was filled with love, laughter, and song! We had plenty to eat and enough to share with anyone who “happened by” at mealtime; we also fed the occasional hobo who might show up. So I learned early that whatever we have is to be shared, not hoarded.

When I lived with my ex, we had plenty and even more. Our children were welcome to invite friends home, and sometimes all three might have a friend spending the night. Usually, though, it was just the five of us, unless my parents came to visit. They would usually spend several days, and we would work together in the garden or house, go shopping, etc. Our house was filled with family and love, back then. But slowly the love was lost, and eventually I decided to leave. At that point, my world was still over half full, except in my home. There, it was below half, but still not empty. By the time I left, it was almost totally empty.

Now, several years later and over ten years with my “new” husband, my life is again almost completely full. We own our place and are still building on our house. We have a garden and plenty of berry bushes and trees to make jelly and jam; we have family around us and family gatherings with extended family on a fairly regular basis. Our children visit fairly regularly, and we have enough to pay our bills and have a little to eat and enjoy life. We are “retired”, but not idle. Our plates are pretty full, and we enjoy life, working and playing and going places together.

If your life is less than half full, maybe you need to look for the silver lining behind your cloud. It’s there, and when you find it, remember that it has always been there! All you have ever had to do was to look for it!
