The pros and cons of living in a small town are abundant. Everybody has reasons for living in a small town.
One of the pros of living in a small town is that you have the propensity to know everyone. Small, populated towns tend to be more rural with limited people living in town. Knowing the neighbors is a good thing because strangers tend to stand out. Crime rate is lower and for the most part people have a healthier relation with the local law enforcement in small towns.
In addition, living in a small town offers more land to farm. The varieties of crops grown are commodity crops, vegetables and fruits or flower gardens. Farming life in small towns is a way of living for many folks.
Another pro to living in a small town is that your children have more room to meander and play. You have more trees and wilderness for hiking and trail riding.
Small town living offers peace and tranquility that people tend to seek when living in a big city. You can see the stars at night because there are no city lights to block it and no smog hiding the sky. You can hear the frogs hollering at night and the whippoorwills singing. You can even hear the crickets chirping maybe an owl hooting too.
The con to living in a small town is the quietness. Some people need noise to function. They thrive off the hustle and bustle of the city life. The pressure and time constraints are what make people tick.
Furthermore, the shopping is limited to maybe one grocery store and a couple of department stores for shopping. The restaurants you frequent will also be limited. It may also be hard to find that Chinese or Japanese cuisine you are so used to getting late at night for take out.
The schools are smaller and may only offer a limited curriculum for students. The teachers may wear multiple hats and the extra curricular activities may be limited or non-existent.
There are not many things to offer entertainment-wise as there is in the big city. Dance clubs, shopping malls, ice skating, conventions, operas, concerts, among other things will be limited if non-existent.
You have to look upon living in a small town as an adventure like living in the big city. It could be like a safari hunt where you are always looking for something new and entertaining. Living in the big city is like a jungle. Living in a small town is like going to a beach resort on a remote island, relaxing, and enjoying the peace and tranquility life has to offer.
Small town living may not be for everyone just like big city living may not be for everyone but each has something to offer that each individual will enjoy and love living there.
