People can’t get enough of the werewolf we see them in littered in horror and science fiction books, but what exactly is a werewolf?  Of course, we know the term werewolf means wolf man and in the movies, the werewolf men are either buff or scraggly (depending on the werewolf movie of course). So let’s go down the path a bit and find out what a werewolf really is and the history of these furry beasts.

First stop happens to be the history of the werewolf. We’re stopping in Greek Mythology, that’s where our creature of fascination makes his debut. After serving Zeus human flesh, the Greek god Lykaon human flesh. Which can be why when a human is sacrificed they turn into wolves. The only problem there is the Greek’s version of a werewolf doesn’t become a human ever again. That’s not the werewolves were used to.

Skipping on to the medieval times the place of dragons, princesses, kings, knights and werewolves. Wolves back then were known to attack men. There was no reason for their attacks so of course, a man type of beast had to have done something this sinister—they already thought the wolves weren’t capable of killing and injuring men.

Okay enough of the history that we really don’t know much about to Europe’s werewolf. That’s more like the werewolves we hear about today, the good werewolves and the bad. Most of Europe believed the werewolf or wolf man, which was commonly called the berserker. Berserkers supposedly took wolves skin to wear so they could kill people. Germany was a lot nicer they viewed wolves as honorable creatures, even as much to the fact to give names with the world wolf in them such as Wolfgang, Wolfram.

We can’t go on without thinking of today’s werewolves and the werewolf sightings. Not talking about the 1500 where there were werewolf trials. That’s even to far back and even like the sightings from Ohio The Ohio wolf man supposedly killed three people by railroad tracks in Defiance Ohio.

Therefore, that leaves us wondering scratching our heads are these creatures dogs, wolves, humans, or humans who turn into wolves. The questions are asked repeatedly and everybody has their own speculation. Moreover, with that there is one final question what exactly is a werewolf?
